POEMI Answers Designist's Questionnaire: 30 Questions

Romanian Ceramics, POEMI

In April 2020, the Designist platform, through Diana Bogdan, invited us to answer „Designist's Questionnaire,” a format inspired by the famous Proust questionnaire, designed to discover Romanian designers and architects from a more personal perspective. Florin and Alexandra Popescu, the founders of POEMI, they answered 30 questions about style, values and preferences.

Among the 30 answers, two stand out. To the question about which design piece should not be missing from any home, the answer was simple:

„A large library,” the two answered in the Designist Questionnaire.

And at the end of the questionnaire, Alexandra’s motto summed up an idea that remains true today in everything we do at POEMI:

„Simplicity is the key to true elegance,” Alexandra replied in the same series of questions.

A questionnaire of this type, less about products and more about the people behind a brand, is a rare opportunity to show the less visible side of the workshop: what we like, what inspires us, what we believe about design in general, beyond the pieces we work on day by day. Upon rereading, the answers from 2020 remain surprisingly close to the way we think even today. POEMI productssimple form, without unnecessary ornaments, and a clear preference for objects that endure over time.

We thank the Designist team for this format and for the curiosity shown towards the story behind the brand, not just the finished objects.

Over time, Designist’s questionnaire has become a sort of informal archive of the Romanian design scene, with dozens of designers and architects having answered the same set of questions. Being part of this series since 2020 means that POEMI’s story is documented alongside those of other Romanian creators, in a format that remains relevant and can be revisited at any time to see how—or how not—the initial ideas have evolved.
