Ceramic products with story

POvestEa MI

Earth and water, this is how it all began. The Earth is live-giving and when it is worked in any form with the hands, it is timelessly reborn in another shape. In our case, by the power of fire and air.

Each POEMI item and collection has a story. We are inspired by things, experiences and emotions from childhood. The plaster on the walls of the house, the colour of the garden, the passing of seasons which puts its mark on all and everything, the table with the three-legged chairs we used to eat at, the wooden tray where the bread was kneaded, the bowl in which the bread was baked in the oven.

Having such a source of inspiration, our purpose is to create shapes, textures, glazes that inspire both chefs who want to emphasise their dishes as well as people who wish to share the joy of a meal with family and friends.

The process

Each POEMI piece comes to life through a complex process that takes at least four weeks and demands great attention to detail.

Depending on the material and the type of product, we use different production techniques — ranging from jiggering and trimming to hand-building and hand-shaping. Once the pieces are formed and finished, they are left to dry naturally until the moisture level is low enough for firing in the kiln.

The first firing, known as biscuit firing, takes place in special electric kilns at temperatures between 950 and 1000°C, with each cycle lasting around 48 hours.

After this stage, the pieces are glazed and undergo a second firing at temperatures between 1200 and 1250°C, depending on the type of material and the type of glaze applied.

Care instructions

  • Before first use. Wash the pieces with warm water and dish soap to remove any dust or residues from transportation.
  • Handle with care. Although stoneware is a durable material, we recommend placing the dishes gently in the sink or dishwasher and avoiding excessive stacking or overcrowding.
  • Unglazed areas. If unglazed surfaces come into contact with food, drinks, or sauces that may stain, wash the piece promptly to prevent permanent marks.
  • Traces of cutlery. On white glazes, gray lines may sometimes appear from certain types of cutlery. This is not a defect or a sign of poor quality—all POEMI products are fired at high temperatures. These marks are a normal chemical reaction and can be removed with powdered dish soap or a mixture of lemon and baking soda.
