Products POEMI are handmade using the "hand-building" technique, without using a potter's wheel or molds for casting.
We use only strong, durable ceramic materials that are fired at high temperatures, making them waterproof even without glaze.
The glazes are eco-friendly, lead-free, and safe for household use. We have also developed in-house a series of organic glazes containing wood ash, in earthy tones with a raw, natural look. You can find them all in the Earth collection.
All POEMI products POEMI dishwasher-safe. They are also microwave-safe, with the exception of those decorated with colloidal gold or copper luster.
In the Earth oven collection you will find products that can be used for cooking, in the oven. Handle them carefully when you take them out of the oven as the ceramics retain heat for a longer period of time.
How do we handcraft POEMI products?
The production process takes three weeks and requires a great deal of attention and care.
The ceramic table (which resembles the plasticine) is stretched into thin strips, cut and shaped to obtain the desired final shape. For some objects, such as mugs, the process includes several steps through which several strips of ceramic mass are glued to obtain the finished product.
After shaping, the objects are left to dry until the humidity is low enough to enter the oven.
Next comes the first firing (biscuit firing) in special electric kilns at temperatures ranging from 950 to 1,000 degrees Celsius. A firing cycle lasts approximately 48 hours.
Then the objects glaze. The glaze is liquid and is applied either by vaporization, or by brushing, or by immersing the object in the glaze.
The glazed pieces will be fired a second time at temperatures ranging from 1,200 to 1,280 degrees Celsius. This process produces a glossy or matte finish.
A third firing at approximately 800 degrees Celsius is necessary when the pieces are decorated with colloidal gold or copper luster.
POEMI items for home use, but also undertakes projects specifically for the hospitality industry. If you have a project you’d like to discuss, we’d love to get to know you!
With love,
